While gold-plated pieces have only a thin surface layer that can wear off over time, gold-filled jewelry is made by bonding a thick layer of 14K gold to a brass core using heat and pressure. The result is durable, long-lasting pieces that resist tarnishing and fading, even with everyday wear.
