JULY BAUBLE OF THE MONTH!! IT’S A GOOD ONE!
Tuesday, June 30th, 2009Food Inc. Documentary- A Must See for Food-eaters!
Monday, June 29th, 2009This past weekend my husband and I went to a screening of Food, Inc. by Robert Kenner & Eric Schlosser Here’s the official website url: http://www.foodincmovie.com/
It is a fascinating movie that exposes the ugly truths about the food we eat and how it’s grown & raised. Some of it is pretty hard to take but it never reaches the heavy-handed devices of a Micheal Moore piece. It’s pretty straightforward and well-organized in disbursing a great deal of information in 90 minutes. There are some ugly things revealed in this movie and most shockingly about how our governmental regulatory agencies are full of board members and ex-executives of some of the major food corporations. Can you say conflict of interest? The greed is staggering and it’s making us all sick to boot, which in turn overloads the healthcare system. We’ve got to do something and we’ve got to do it now. The movie makes an important point that we can vote to change the situation- 3 times per day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’m down!!!
I haven’t eaten meat in over 20 years but I do cook it for my children. I’ve been a big advocate of WholeFoods & buying organic but in trying to cut corners out of our budget this past difficult year, I’ve been shopping at Publix and have not been buying all organic. They do have some organic and I buy it when I can. But not enough & NO MORE! I went back to WholeFoods for my last shop and am determined to patronize the local growers & head down to the Nashville Farmers Market. (http://www.nashvillefarmersmarket.org/ for any of you Nashvillians.) I think if we’re careful we can find ways to decrease our food bills & increase our health. It might take more effort in making more stuff from scratch but we’ll be certainly healthier & happier because we are making a difference in our world one meal at a time……

Scenes from Our Nashville Summer Show
Sunday, June 21st, 2009We had a great summer show this past weekend. Here are some scenes:
Here are some jewelry pix- some of them are of our NEW 3 Stone rings that people were digging. They’ll be up on the site next week. They are so fun!! We offered some great little sandwiches but people were pretty busy shopping so we actually ended up eating them mostly ourselves! Big time dieting coming up in the next two weeks as I have to be in a bathing suit way too soon! Yuck-city… Anyway- here’s a pic of some of the sandwiches Heather, Ashley & I made:
we had radish & butter sandwiches with salt, cream cheese & green olive on multi-grain bread from La Brea Bakery, Sun-dried Tomatoes & Chevre cheese on Garlic, Watercress & Cucumber on Country French. They were awesome. We also served spa waters made with cucumbers & clementines. We got this tip from our hostess Catherine Romero- in Birmingham. Easy to do and really tasty & good for you- I tried to drink a one glass for every diet coke I let myself have for this “special occasion”.
We loved meeting the new people who came by. Thanks to Tracey Harris for sending some of her customers to us! For any of you Nashville girls with skin needs- she’s a Vanderbilt Grad, & nurse practitioner- simply THE best- Trace Skin Care (615) 880-1191.

Notes From Kansas City
Tuesday, June 9th, 2009We just got back from our show in Kansas City. We were blown away by what an awesome city it is! They’ve got such a growth pulse going on there it’s palpable. Upon further investigation, we were told that a female mayor was responsible for many of the projects that have changed the city in to an incredibly liveable place (natch!) From my perspective, the place was alive with creative types, particularly architects and designers. There were excellent museums, parks and public spaces. Apparently Kansas City has so many fountains that it is second only to Paris! Here are my hostesses:

Hostess Julie Sally, Tory Fitzgibbon & JB
My hostesses were Julie Sally & Abby Wendell. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of Abby but Julie is to the right. The gorgeous babe in the middle is Tory Fitgibbon, fabulous interior designer from Nashville, sis-in-law of Julie’s and great pal of mine. She came up for the festivities and fun. Here’s the gorgeous cheese tray from Dean & Deluca. Yum-city!
We had a great cocktail party and enjoyed some good Savignon Blanc & Pinot Noir. Later that night we went to Howl at the Moon for some dueling pianos. Heather and I were thrilled to be singing to “Piano Man” again, just like we did in San Antonio. Our goal is to visit every Howl at the Moon location in the US.
We haven’t checked into how many are in the US, we just know we want to see them! That night it seemed like a good idea to order a drink in a bucket so we did. It was the worst tasting thing in the world but I do believe we got a “framer” picture out of it!

The next day we enjoyed a side trip to Bob Jones shoes. For anyone traveling to KC, that is a must-stop shoe outlet. I picked up some 1/2 price Donald Pliners and Heather got an awesome cream patent leather high heel pair with silver buckles. We were quite pleased! Last but not least was a visit to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art grounds to have a photo with what is surely the largest shuttlecock in the world!

Now That's A shuttlecock!
Kansas City, you rock!!!
Some down time in Kansas City
Saturday, June 6th, 2009Well, Judith and I are over here in Kansas City, MO, and I have some down time so I thought blogging might be entertaining. I have realized that I need to start running a bit more, the Hospital Hill half-marathon was going on this morning, and I felt a bit out of shape when we ended up in the elevator with the fourth place finisher… right, on the list.
Other fun news in my world… Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book won Audiobook of the year, which makes me happy because I love the book as well as Neil’s reading of it – you should pick it up and listen or read it! Sherman Alexie will also be be publishing a new book (I think in the fall) which will be a follow-up to The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which is amazing fun, and also makes me very happy.
Alright, I should probably get back to work now, just wanted to add a quick note because I need to get better about doing this. I’ll report on the awesome fun we have had when our trip is done (I think we may hit some art galleries this evening), and perhaps actually mention some jewelry in the next post.
